How not to install PV Panels
I was driving along a local road the other day and saw this. I had to stop for a picture. I hope the owners had been told by the Solar System sales person or installers that they need to lop the tree for best performance, it won’t be working very well at the moment. Not so clear solar?
Although the hotter solar cells get, the more their efficiency and performance drop so, the shading will keep them cooler 🙂
Trunsun Solar PV Panels
My solar installation has Trunsun Solar Panels installed.
They are 190 Watt monocrystalline panels.
Here are the specs.

Peak Power (PMax) | 190W |
Open Circuit Voltage (Voc) | 44.80V |
Max Power Voltage (Vmp) | 36.50V |
Short Circuit Current (Isc) | 5.58A |
Max Power Current (Imp) | 5.21A |
Power Tolerance Range | -3% / +3% |
Module Efficiency | 14.88% |
Maximum System Voltage | 1000VDC |
Weight | 17kg |
Dimensions | 1580 X 808 X 45 |
All technical data at standard test condition AM1.5 E=1000W / M² Tc=25°C |
Graph comparisons CC vs GPM vs ASC
The following images are screen shots of the graphs from Current Cost, Google Powermeter & AS Control.
They are all for the 17th May 2011. I took the screen shots at around 10pm, so the totals for the Current Cost and Google Powermeter graphs aren’t finalised due to the “always” on current due to the Inverter’s EMC filter that I mentioned in this post >> Monitoring via Current Cost and Google Powermeter.
Solmetric SunEye 210 solar access and shade report
At work I have access to a Solmetric SunEye™ 210 shade analysis tool.
This is lifted from the Solmetric website.
Professional Site Evaluation
The SunEye 210 is an integrated Shade Analysis Tool for solar site assessment. It includes a fisheye camera and a dedicated on-board processor to perform digital image processing and analysis to compute shading and solar access percentages. It includes an electronic compass and inclinometer enabled to measure roof pitch and azimuth.
Monitoring via Current Cost and Google Powermeter
In addition to using the EverSolar PMU to monitor my solar generation, I also have a Current Cost EnviR and Bridge installed. It uploads it data to the Current Cost Dashboard and that uploads the data to the Google Power meter.
